“Dawn at Midnight” is a documentary written and directed by Cetywa Powell released in 2014 that describes the middle East hostage crisis in the eighties, in particular the kidnapping of Terry Anderson and the search of his colleague Robert Fisk. Initially the ambition was to storyboard and animate a lot of sequences to complement the available archives and TV footages on this subject. We started to make a number of rough storyboards that were meant to be drawn cleanly and then animated, to make a mixed documentary with real footages and animated sequences. Soon I could not cope with drawing all the roughs in a clean manner as the number of drawings can be significantly high when you start to make animation. Cetywa decide to hire another illustrator to clean draw the rough sequences. At the end I have made 2 “cleaned” sequences (that remained static) while the other illustrators made the rest of the selected sequences, a lot of them being finally eliminated as more footages.
